The Barbaria lighthouse stands at the southernmost point of the Balearic Islands and Formentera. The origin of its name "Cabo de Berberia" is most likely related to its geographical location, the closest point of Africa and the "barbarians and pirates" whom regularly raided the Balearic Islands.
You will only be able to see the lighthouse from outside because it is still in use. The surrounding landscape is still extraordinary. Not far from the lighthouse is the Gap Cave, aka "cava agujerada". Inside this cave, helped by a makeshift ladder, a small path will take you directly to a balcony of rocks by the sea.
