The welcoming team of the Rodrigues Tourism Office receives the traveler in the center of Port Mathurin in the heart of an old renovated wooden Creole house that is worth the detour. The place, very well organized and decorated, is a showcase of the main tourist attractions of the island (activities, good restaurants, shops ...) and local know-how. Beyond the usual brochures and useful information booklets, the house houses a permanent exhibition of the main products of Rodriguan craftsmanship, essential culinary delights and the best books and CDs (consultation possible). Everyone is then free to go and acquire one or other of these products on the market stalls, in the shops of Port Mathurin or the workshops of the country, according to the advice given by the staff on duty.

In a practical spirit, the Rodrigues Tourist Office also offers the schedule of the main events and provides the bus or tide timetable grids. Free access computers make it possible to refine searches, to book accommodation or simply to consult e-mails remotely. At the back of the room, a few well-made didactic tables retrace the history of the island in a few major stages.

The island enjoys a tropical climate with temperatures varying between 28 and 35°C during the Southern summer, which coincides with the cyclonic season (November to April) and between 18 and 27°C in winter. South-east trade winds bring an invigorating drizzle during the “cold” season. The rainy season is rejuvenating, turning drained rivers into unsuspected torrents gushing down to the sea, at times transforming into spectacular but ephemeral waterfalls.
